Mani Bhavan Gandhi Museum
A house on leafy Laburnum Road, so quiet it is easy to walk past, and Gandhi's Mumbai base from 1917 to 1934. The Non-Cooperation, Satyagraha, Swadeshi and Khadi campaigns were all launched from these rooms. On the top floor his own room is kept as it was, spinning wheel included; a floor below, a photo gallery follows his life; the research library on the ground floor holds some 40,000 volumes. Open daily around 9:30 to 18:00 for a token fee, and rarely crowded: a place that repays walking slowly and reading the captions.
The preserved room where India's freedom campaigns were planned, and it is still quiet
