AreaGirgaon

A 19th-century East Indian hamlet tucked off Girgaon's main roads: pastel bungalows in the Portuguese manner, teak verandahs, cobbled lanes wide enough for one scooter. Of the original 65 houses about 28 survive. Gallery 47-A opened in 2022 on the ground floor of an 1857 bungalow, showing design work and neighbourhood history, and the designer James Ferreira's 200-year-old family home hosts pop-ups. People live here and their front doors open onto the lane, so walk quietly and ask before photographing a house.
