AreaAndheri West

A two-hundred-foot column of black basalt stands upright in the middle of Andheri, left behind by volcanic activity around 66 million years ago. It is one of only a handful of such monoliths on the planet, a relative of Devils Tower in Wyoming. Steps climb the side to the Gaodevi and Durga temples on the flat summit, and the view opens over the western suburbs in every direction. It has been a Grade II heritage structure since 2007, though construction still presses at its base. Late afternoon light suits the rock best.
