Dharavi

← Mumbai

Dharavi is a dense informal settlement of around a million residents and one of Asia's most productive small-industry districts (leather, pottery, recycling, informal economy ~$1B+). Here they work with leather, textiles, plastic, and metal. This is the neighborhood where you see a different Mumbai: working, dense, loud, without gloss, but with incredible energy. If you visit, choose community-run operators (e.g., Reality Tours) and avoid photographing people without consent.
