Banganga Tank
Behind Malabar Hill's towers lies a rectangular tank of 1127, ringed by stone ghat steps, deepstambha lamp pillars and the small temples of the Walkeshwar cluster. It is the oldest continuously inhabited sacred site in Mumbai. By tradition Rama loosed an arrow into the ground here and Ganga water rose, which gave the tank its name. Phased restoration of the steps began in 2024, and a classical music festival fills the precinct in winter. Come early, when the water is still. It is a living place of worship, so dress modestly.
