Navadvipa Mandala Parikrama

For one week a year several thousand people walk a circuit of the nine 'islands' around Mayapur: villages, temples and river crossings connected with the 16th-century saint Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, whose birthplace this is. It moves as a procession with drums, banners and constant singing, camping overnight. It is the single biggest thing that happens in Mayapur and the town is unrecognisable during it.

Once a year, in the run-up to Gaura Purnima (the full moon of February-March). In 2026 the parikrama runs 19–25 February, with a preparatory day on 18 February; the wider festival runs 31 January to 5 March 2026 and the main day, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu's appearance day, is 3 March 2026. The dates move every year with the lunar calendar.
