Nakhoda Masjid
The city's principal mosque rises straight out of Chitpur's crowded lanes, built between 1926 and 1942 with money from Kutchi Memon shipping merchants (nakhoda means mariner). The gateway answers the Buland Darwaza at Fatehpur Sikri and the domes follow Akbar's tomb at Sikandra; two minarets stand 151 feet above a hall that holds up to 10,000 people at prayer. Come outside prayer times, dressed modestly, shoes left at the entrance. Zakaria Street outside is known citywide for its Ramadan bazaar.
