Mattancherry Palace (Dutch Palace)

← Kochi

An old palace in the Mattancherry district, built by the Portuguese in the 16th century and later updated by the Dutch.

Inside: bright frescoes on the walls with stories from the "Ramayana" and "Mahabharata," portraits of rajas, ancient weapons, a throne, and palanquins. The atmosphere is calm, cool even at blazing noon.

Located not far from the synagogue and antique shops. Entrance is paid but inexpensive, more symbolic (5 rupees for all visitors).
