Chinese Fishing Nets
An iconic symbol of Kochi, appearing here thanks to Chinese seafarers in the 14th–15th centuries (Zheng He era).
Giant wooden structures with stone counterweights are lowered into the water by hand; the movement is unhurried, coordinated, almost meditative. It's especially beautiful to watch at sunset, when the nets are reflected in the water.
Sometimes fishermen offer to try lifting the net yourself, for a small fee.
