Jagat Shiromani Temple
Queen Kanakwati raised this temple in Amer town between 1599 and 1608 in memory of her son Jagat Singh, and it carries the finest stonework in Amer outside the fort walls: a marble torana (ceremonial arch) flanked by stone elephants, columns cut to the depth of lace, sculpted celestial figures along the walls. The Krishna image inside is believed to be the one the poet-saint Meera Bai worshipped in Mewar, brought here for safekeeping. Nearly everyone who reaches Amer goes up to the fort and no further, so the courtyard stays quiet. Shoes off at the door.
