AreaJai Niwas Garden, City Palace complex

The temple Jaipur treats as its own household shrine, set in the palace gardens so that the Maharaja could see the deity from his rooms in Chandra Mahal. The Krishna image was brought here from Vrindavan under Sawai Jai Singh II, and seven aartis (lamp offerings) a day still mark the hours. The Mangala aarti at dawn and the evening one draw the largest and warmest crowds, with singing that carries across the garden. Entry is free, shoes come off at the gate, shoulders and knees covered.
