Amber Fort
Founded in 1592 by Raja Man Singh I and expanded through the 17th and early 18th centuries, the fort is built of red sandstone and white marble and consists of several courtyards, halls and observation decks. The architecture blends Rajput and Mughal styles: massive walls, carved arches, marble elements and carefully detailed decorative features.
What to See Inside:
- Sheesh Mahal (Mirror Hall) – Completely inlaid with mirrors that reflect even weak light; the effect is very bright
- Ganesh Pol – A gate decorated with frescoes and delicate paintings
- Jai Mandir (the Hall of Victory) – carved marble panels are the reason to slow down here; the Sheesh Mahal sits inside it
The route through the fort passes through the central courtyard, residential quarters, the Mirror Hall and several observation decks. The passages are stone, in some places uneven, and the territory is large.
Tips:
- There is practically no shade inside – water and a hat are essential
- Access to the fort is available on foot or by jeep; elephant rides are available, but it's hard on the animals in the heat
- Peak hours are crowded, especially at the Mirror Hall
- The most comfortable times to visit are early morning and sunset: softer light and lower temperatures
One of Jaipur's key historic complexes
