Paigah Tombs

← Hyderabad

AreaPisal Banda, Santosh Nagar

A courtyard of pale stucco on the southern edge of the city, well off the usual circuit, where the Paigah nobles (the family ranked just below the Nizams) buried their dead through the 18th and 19th centuries. The lime stucco is worked into filigree as fine as lace, and marble jaali screens, pierced like paper, drop shifting patterns onto the floor. The blend of Mughal, Rajputana and Deccani forms exists nowhere else. Conservation by the Aga Khan Trust for Culture has been under way since 2023 and the site stays open through it. Free, roughly 10:00–17:00, closed Friday afternoons for prayers next door.

The finest stucco and jaali work in the Deccan, and still almost no one comes
