Osman Sagar (Gandipet Lake)

← Hyderabad

AreaGandipet, ~20 km west

The Musi flooded catastrophically, and in 1920 the city dammed it. The reservoir that resulted supplied Hyderabad's drinking water for generations, and 'Gandipet water' still works locally as shorthand for the best there is. Now it is where the city goes at the end of the day: a landscaped lakeside eco-park of some seven hectares, long walks along the bund, a great deal of open sky over the water. Open roughly 6:00 to 18:00. Weekends fill up, especially in years when the reservoir is full after a strong monsoon; weekday evenings stay quiet. Chilkur Balaji temple is nearby.

Long walks along the bund and a lot of open sky, best in the last hour of light
