Hyderabad nightlife: pubs, breweries and late-night food
Hyderabad's nights out run on craft beer and rooftops. Several of the best-known bars are in Jubilee Hills and Banjara Hills, west of the centre, and some brew their own beer. Just as much of the city's night happens over food: biryani, kebabs and dosas served late. Here is how to choose, the rules on drinking, and how to get back.

The rules: age, where, dry days
Age: under the Telangana Excise Act, 1968, licensed bars and shops may not sell or serve alcohol to anyone under 21. The UK government advises always carrying identity documents in India.
Where: drinking in public places such as parks is illegal in India. Keep it to licensed bars, restaurants and your hotel.
Dry days: the sale of alcohol is often stopped during major religious festivals, national holidays and elections, and police may run vehicle checks then. Hyderabad's big festival days are worth checking ahead.
Smoking: illegal in most public places, so only in designated areas; vapes are banned, and you cannot buy them in India or bring them in.
The national picture is on alcohol in India and dry states.
How to choose: four kinds of night
The bars and late-food places below are in the list above; here is what each kind of evening looks like.
Craft beer
Hyderabad brews its own. 36 Downtown Brew Pub is a rooftop microbrewery in Jubilee Hills with live music; Ironhill Brewery is a big craft brewery with house beers and terrace seating; Over The Moon is a Banjara Hills brewpub; Prost Brewpub is one of the city's pioneering craft breweries, with a rooftop. Jubilee Hills and Banjara Hills sit next to each other, so two of them make an easy evening.
A rooftop with dinner (₹₹₹)
Olive Bistro sits above Durgam Cheruvu lake: whitewashed walls, a breezy deck, wood-fired pizzas, mezze and Italian plates with cocktails and live music. It is a special-evening place rather than a quick drink. For more terraces with food, see rooftop restaurants in Hyderabad.
Late-night food (₹–₹₹)
Shah Ghouse in Tolichowki cooks old-style biryani, heavier on ghee and spice than the chains, and runs late. Mehfil is a pocket-friendly chain open late, with branches in most areas. Cafe 555 near Masab Tank is a no-frills Irani cafe for biryani and chai. On Tank Bund, Bade Miyan Kababs grills patthar ka gosht, meat cooked on a heated stone slab, in front of you. Ram ki Bandi in Nampally makes dosas to order late into the night, with a queue still there after 11 pm and almost nowhere to sit.
An evening without a bar
Moazzam Jahi Market fills in the evening, when the lamps come on, and its hand-churned ice cream counters are institutions. At Durgam Cheruvu the cable bridge is lit after dark. The Night Bazaar next to Shilparamam is free and open late. Golconda Fort has an evening sound-and-light show (separate ticket), and Taramati Baradari hosts music and dance evenings. Ramzan: the Old City at night
During Ramzan, the month of fasting that ends with Eid al-Fitr (10 March 2027), the Old City has the busiest nights of the year. After sunset food stalls appear around Charminar, haleem (slow-cooked wheat and meat) steams in cauldrons on the corners, and the lanes stay packed until well after midnight; the last days before Eid run latest. Pista House near Charminar and Shah Ghouse are the best-known haleem names. Keep your phone zipped away in the crowd. More on festivals in Hyderabad.
Getting back safely
The first metro trains leave at 6:00 and the last leave the terminal stations at 23:00, so for a late night plan on a cab. Uber, Ola and Rapido are strong in Hyderabad, Rapido is usually the cheapest, and a cab across the centre costs from approximately ₹100; a pickup surcharge of approximately ₹20 is normal. The UK government advises against hailing taxis on the street, especially at night and alone; an app ride lets you share the trip with a friend.
Don't leave drinks unattended or accept drinks or food from strangers. In an emergency call 112; more on safety in Hyderabad and emergency numbers.
