Nehru Zoological Park
One of the largest zoos in India: 154 hectares opened in 1963, holding around 1,500 animals in enclosures separated by moats rather than bars and comparatively spacious for a zoo of this age. Drive-through circuits take visitors through the lion, tiger and bear sections, and a natural-history museum stands on the grounds. The distances are real, so battery buggies and a toy train run the loops. Ticketed and closed on Mondays. Mornings are cooler and the animals more active then; the Sudha Cars Museum is close enough to add on afterwards.
