Ganga Aarti at Har Ki Pauri

The biggest and loudest of the Ganga aartis. Har Ki Pauri is the ghat where, in the legend, a drop of the nectar of immortality fell, so this is the most sacred bathing spot on the upper Ganga, and on a busy evening tens of thousands of people are here at once. Priests on both banks and on the central island swing huge tiered lamps in unison while the crowd sings and floats lamps downstream.

Every evening at sunset: roughly 18:30–19:00 in summer (Mar-Oct) and roughly 17:30–18:00 in winter (Nov-Feb). Lasts 45–60 minutes. There is also a shorter morning aarti, roughly 05:30–06:00 depending on the season.
