Virupaksha Temple
Hampi's primary active temple. A sacred space where local devotees come daily to pray, make offerings, and participate in services.
It's the only major site in Hampi where you see living Hinduism rather than a historical reconstruction. There's no "performance for tourists" here: services run on schedule, whether visitors come or not.
The best times to visit are early morning or evening. Dress code is required: shoulders and knees covered. Shoes are removed and left at the entrance; carrying them inside is considered disrespectful. Budget 30–60 minutes.
