The royal section preserves a stepped water reservoir. Not a decorative feature but part of the city's water supply system. Water management was critical to survival in this semi-arid region.
What's unique: it was designed for seasonal water level fluctuations. The steps allowed the reservoir to be used regardless of how full it was, a brilliant engineering solution to a practical problem. A reminder that ancient cities had to solve the same basic problems modern cities do. Viewing takes 10–15 minutes.
