Pampa Sarovar
A lotus-covered tank behind Vali Parvata on the Anegundi side, counted among the five sacred sarovars (holy lakes) of India. Tradition holds that Pampa, a form of Parvati, performed her penance here, and that it was at this spot that the devotee Shabari offered berries to Rama; her cave sits beside the water, along with the small Pampambike and Pampapathi shrines, whose origins reach back to the tenth century. Early morning, as the lotuses open, is the hour to come. Free, quiet, and shoes come off at the shrines.
