How to get around Hampi
Scooter
The ruins are scattered over some 25 km² of rock and banana fields, so the scooter is what makes them one site instead of three separate outings. Off-season prices drop by up to half.
~₹400–700 a day, ~₹700–1,000 at peak
Bicycle
Perfect for the sacred centre and the road to Vittala, and the right speed for the landscape. Take a geared one if you plan to go past Kamalapura, and ride early.
~₹100–250 a day
Rickshaw for the day
The sensible option in the heat and with a family: one driver, a fixed route around the main groups, shade between stops. Agree the list of sites before you start.
~₹1,000–1,500
Across the Tungabhadra
A motorboat runs roughly 07:00–17:30 to Virupapur Gaddi and Anegundi, where the guesthouses are. The round coracles are a ride, not transport: about ~₹100–200 for half an hour.
~₹50–100 per person
From March the heat runs the day: see the ruins in the early morning and late afternoon, and rest in between.
