Museum of Goa (MOG), Pilerne: timings, tickets and what to see
The Museum of Goa (MOG) in Pilerne is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00 and closed on Mondays. Adult tickets cost ₹300, children and youth ₹200, and under-fives go free. It is a contemporary art museum founded by the artist Subodh Kerkar, with rotating shows about Goa's history and a sculpture garden: the best plan for a wet afternoon in North Goa.
A three-floor contemporary-art museum in, of all places, the Pilerne industrial estate between Calangute and Panjim. Subodh Kerkar, a doctor who became an artist, opened it in 2015 and tells Goa's history through installations rather than labels: ocean trade, the Portuguese encounter, the arrival of chillies, the cashew. Shows rotate, so local and visiting artists keep the rooms changing, and there is a sculpture garden, a children's art studio and a cafe. Entry runs around Rs 300. It works especially well on a wet afternoon when the beaches are out.

What you will see
MOG opened on 6 November 2015 in a three-storey building of about 1,500 square metres, designed by the architect Dean D'Cruz, on the site of Kerkar's former studio. The setting is unexpected: an industrial estate between Calangute and Panjim. Kerkar, a doctor who became an artist, tells Goa's story through installations rather than labels: ocean trade, the Portuguese encounter, the arrival of chillies, the cashew.
There is no permanent collection. Exhibitions rotate, so local and visiting artists keep the rooms changing and a second visit is rarely a repeat. Besides the galleries:
- Sculpture garden in the open grounds.
- Art Cafe with coffee, snacks and meals among the artworks.
- MOG Shop with books, souvenirs and contemporary local art.
- Children's Art Studio, a space for children to make art.
The name is an acronym, and also a Konkani word: mog means love.
