Tickets
Sunder Nursery timings
The park's own timings page gives the hours as 7:00 am to 10:00 pm, seven days a week, with last entry at 9:00 pm. There is no weekly closed day.
Two caveats from the same page. When a ticketed event is on, the ordinary entry ticket covers only the non-ticketed parts of the park. And individual venues can close for maintenance; in special cases the park posts notice on its social media and notice board, and the phone line (011 4070 0700) can confirm the day's situation.
Entry fee and parking
According to the park's ticket page and visitor information:
- Indian and SAARC adults: ₹50
- Indian children 5–12 and Indian senior citizens (60+): ₹25
- Foreign nationals: ₹200
- Children under 5 and differently-abled visitors: free
Children under 12 must come with an adult. The ticket card above shows the same adult rates from the India GO database. Annual, family and quarterly passes are also sold.
Parking inside the park costs ₹100 for a car for four hours on weekdays and ₹200 on Sundays and gazetted holidays; two-wheelers pay ₹35 for four hours. The western lot near Subz Burj circle and the eastern lot near Gurudwara Damdama Sahib charge ₹50 per car.
How to reach Sunder Nursery
The park is on Mathura Road, opposite the Humayun's Tomb complex, near Nizamuddin police station.
No metro station is at the gate. The park lists four stations 2–3 km away: Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Jangpura and Khan Market on the Violet Line, and Supreme Court on the Blue Line. Autorickshaws wait at all of them for the last stretch.
Because Humayun's Tomb is across the road, the two fit into one half-day walk.
What to see in Sunder Nursery
The site was a Mughal garden known as Azim Bagh. In 1913 a nursery was set up here to grow trees and plants for the new capital, New Delhi. After a 2007 agreement, the Aga Khan Trust for Culture restored the site together with the CPWD and the ASI, and it opened to the public as a heritage park in February 2018.
Mughal monuments
The main monuments are Sunder Burj, Sunderwala Mahal and Lakkarwala Burj; the park also has a Mughal pavilion, an arched platform, historic wells and several smaller tombs.
Gardens and water
Water gardens with a scalloped sandstone waterfall, rose gardens, orchards, flower beds and a herbal garden.
Arboretum and micro-habitats
An arboretum of about 300 tree species and a zone that recreates four native Delhi habitats. The park counts over 80 bird and 60 butterfly species.
Weekend market
An organic and natural-products market: on summer Sundays 8 am–1 pm, in winter on Saturdays and Sundays 9 am–2 pm.
✅ Park rules: food, pets, cycling
- Picnics are allowed, as long as no rubbish is left behind.
- Dogs must be on a leash and are not allowed near the water bodies or in the wilderness zone; owners clean up after them.
- Cycling is permitted only on the peripheral road.
- Professional photo shoots are arranged in advance by email with the park.
- The park is wheelchair accessible except for the wilderness zone and the lower plinths around the World Heritage monuments; free wheelchairs are lent at the ticket counter against ID.
Food and a half-day plan
The India GO guide's food pick inside the park is Carnatic Cafe, a South Indian cafe. A natural half-day: Humayun's Tomb in the morning, then lunch and a slow loop of the nursery.
