AreaNear Forest Research Institute

Five hundred metres from the Forest Research Institute, and walked past by almost everyone who goes there, stands a small museum of the Anthropological Survey of India, set up in 1971 and given over to the peoples of the Central Himalaya. Costumes, ornaments, musical instruments, working tools and dioramas introduce the Jaunsari, Bhotia, Tharu and Buksa, names you will hear again and again once you are up in the hills. The ticket is token, thirty to forty-five minutes is enough, and it closes on Sundays, second Saturdays and gazetted holidays.

A half-hour primer on the hill communities, 500 m from the FRI everyone visits
