Paltan Bazaar

← Dehradun

AreaBetween Clock Tower and the railway station

The oldest trading street in the city runs from the Clock Tower down towards the railway station, through what was once cantonment ground (paltan means regiment). This is where the valley's own produce is sold: fragrant Doon basmati, hill spices, walnuts, teas and jars of pickle made from lemon, mango and rhododendron flowers, alongside Garhwali shawls and winter woollens. The narrow Moti Bazaar lane running off it is the old wholesale corner for pickles and provisions. Mostly pedestrian and at its liveliest after dark; in the clothing stalls, the first price is an opening position.
