This place breaks every expectation you have about an Indian city. You pass through the gates and suddenly you're in Tibet.

A massive stupa, about 56 meters high, one of the tallest Buddhist stupas in Asia. Manicured gardens, Buddha statues, gold roofs, and profound silence. It's an active monastery where monks of the Nyingma tradition live and study. The neighborhood around it, Clement Town, is a Tibetan colony. Different architecture, different faces, and a different rhythm of life.

With a little luck, you can wander the grounds almost alone. The contrast with the noisy city center is striking: the silence makes you want to slow down, spin the prayer wheels, and simply breathe. The grounds feel separate from India entirely, and if you get hungry there are Tibetan cafes all around.
