The English Book Depot
Founded in Ferozepur in 1923 and settled at 15 Rajpur Road since 1948, this is one of the oldest bookshops in India, and still the business of the same family; the fourth generation runs it now. A coffee corner arrived in 2002 and turned the place into a book café, which is why people come in for one title and stay an hour, a few minutes' walk from the Clock Tower. Together with Natraj further up the same road, it explains why Dehradun is spoken of as a reading town rather than merely a staging post for the hills.
