Rock Garden
The Rock Garden is one of the city's most unexpected sights and the complete opposite of Le Corbusier's stern concrete. It's a vast sculpture park built from industrial and household waste: broken ceramics, bangles, electrical sockets, tiles, shards.
It was built single-handedly, in secret, over decades by a humble government clerk, Nek Chand, at first illegally, in his spare time. Today it holds more than 2,000 figures and compositions across roughly 40 acres, linked by a maze of passages, arches, and waterfalls. A genuinely mesmerizing place, and proof that art can grow literally out of trash.
A garden made of waste
