Japanese Garden
Chandigarh was planned around its gardens, and this one, opened in 2014, borrows its manners from Japan: pagoda towers, stepped waterfalls, still ponds crossed by low bridges, a seated Buddha and corners set aside for sitting quietly. Two phases are joined by an underground passage painted with Japanese murals, which children generally treat as the main attraction. Entry is free and the gates stay open from early morning until about 9 pm. On a weekday morning the bridges are yours.
