Bengaluru weather

Best time: Nov–Feb

← Bengaluru

Bangalore has the gentlest weather of any big Indian city. The plateau it stands on, about 920 m up, keeps daytime highs between 27 and 34 °C in every month and nights at 16–22 °C. The variable is rain, not heat: November to February is dry and clear, March to May is the warm stretch, and September and October bring the heaviest showers. Below is the climate by month; for today's forecast, use the IMD link at the end.

What each season feels like

November–February, dry and cool. Days of 27–31 °C, nights of 16–18 °C, and in December to February barely a rainy day a month. Mornings are fresh enough for a light layer, the sky is clear, and this is the season for walking market lanes and gardens without watching the clouds.

March–May, the warm months. April is the hottest: 34 °C by day, 22 °C at night, with low humidity. Rain picks up in April (about 62 mm over four days), and May averages 129 mm of rain over eight days. Do your outdoor sightseeing in the morning.

June–August, the monsoon. On IMD's normal dates the southwest monsoon reaches Bengaluru around 3 June. Days drop to 28–30 °C and the sky turns grey, but the rain comes as showers on 7–10 days a month rather than as week-long downpours, and after each one the city smells of wet earth and rain trees. A comfortable time for a city break if you carry an umbrella.

September–October, the wettest. September is the rainiest month (208 mm), October close behind (186 mm), each with about ten rainy days. A heavy shower can flood low roads for a few hours and stop traffic, so leave a margin before flights and trains.

Best time to visit Bangalore

November to February is the best window: dry, sunny and cool at night. But Bangalore has no month to avoid outright, which is rare in India. The heat of March–May never reaches the 40 °C of the northern plains, and the monsoon months are mild. The only real cost of a September or October trip is time lost to downpours and traffic.

Festivals and the weather they fall in

Two of the city's own festivals fall in good weather, one on warm spring nights and one in the dry season.

Bengaluru Karaga: late March–April

Nine days ending on the Chaitra full moon, with the jasmine-tower procession walking the old city through the night (24 March–1 April in 2026; expected around 12–20 April in 2027). Nights are warm, around 20–22 °C, and usually dry. [More about Karaga](/en/festivals/bengaluru-karaga/)

Kadalekai Parishe: November–December

The groundnut fair at the Bull Temple in Basavanagudi, three days from the last Monday of the month of Karthika (from 7 December in 2026; expected from 22 November in 2027). It falls in the dry season, with cool evenings around 16–18 °C.

✅ What to pack

Bangalore never asks for a heavy coat, but the evenings and the showers are worth planning for.

  • A light layer — For December–February evenings and early mornings, when it drops to about 16 °C.
  • An umbrella or rain jacket — From May to October; September and October are the wettest months.
  • Sun protection — Hat and sunscreen for March–May, when afternoons reach 33–34 °C.
  • Shoes that cope with puddles — Sandals or quick-drying shoes for the monsoon months.
