Kalki

The shop most people mean when they say they bought something in Auroville: hand-dyed and block-printed clothing in strong, flat colours, alongside incense, essential oils, soaps, jewellery and handmade-paper stationery, most of it from the township's own workshops. The store on the Auroville road, at 44 M.G. Road in Kottakuppam, is open daily from around 10am to 8pm; a smaller Kalki counter at the Visitors Centre keeps 9:30am to 6pm, next to La Boutique d'Auroville and Mirra Boutique. Maroma, the largest incense and fragrance maker here, has no shop of its own and sells through these two.
