Victoria Jubilee Clock Tower

← Ajmer

AreaStation Road, opposite Ajmer Junction

Step out of Ajmer Junction and it is there across the road: a sandstone clock tower put up in 1887 for Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee, carrying four balconies, carved brackets and domed chhatris, the small open kiosks Rajasthan sets on every roofline. For anyone arriving by train it is the first and last thing they see of the city, and it anchors the quarter Ajmer grew when it became headquarters of the Rajputana Railway. Seen from the outside only, free, and lit once it is dark.

The first thing you see off the train, and the marker of Ajmer's railway century
