Sama: the listening

Here qawwali is not a scheduled concert but part of the daily service, sung through the day and into the night alongside the langar and the recitation. Sama means "listening": in the Chishti understanding, music is a way of attention, not entertainment.

Through the day; the fullest singing is in the evening, after the lamps are lit.
